As principal of Carrie Lee Elementary, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our school website. Carrie Lee is a third and fourth grade school with an enrollment of approximately 220 students.
As an educational team, we at Carrie Lee are dedicated to academic excellence, and holding high expectations to ensure that each and every student will be a successful learner. We are committed to creating a safe and positive learning environment where staff and students model respectful, responsible behavior in order to provide each student with the best learning opportunities.
Our staff is focused on a professional development process called Professional Learning Communities (PLC). We are committed to work as a team based on the belief that all students can learn at high levels. The PLC process involves teacher teams working together in weekly meetings. This will help us in making a better connection between teaching effectiveness, learning, assessing, reviewing data, reteaching, differentiation of instruction, and meeting students’ needs. We will decide what we want students to learn, find out if they have learned it, challenge them if they do learn, and respond appropriately with time and support when they have not.
Along with academic excellence, Carrie Lee is also committed to the social and emotional needs of our students. We are a PBIS (Positive Behavior and Instructional Supports) School. We have school-wide expectations and supports for students to achieve their best and handle social interactions in a positive productive manner.
Carrie Lee Elementary recognizes that the world is changing around us and that technology is a huge part of that. Our classrooms are equipped with SmartBoards, TVs, and document cameras. This technology allows students to participate in the lessons through interactive activities. We recently rolled out our 1:1 initiative with all students having an iPad. This provides more options for individualized instruction for our students.
We have an involved supportive Parent Teacher Organization. This organization helps our school through volunteers and funding for many extras, including author visits, attending professional plays, social activities for students, and providing additional classroom resources. Please check out their link on the district website about our PTO.
Carrie Lee Elementary has recently been ranked #11 in the state of Iowa by Niche.com. We appreciate the public recognition, but also know that we work to do our best to meet our students’ needs on a daily basis. We’re proud of our hardworking staff, our great students, and our supportive community. Come visit us soon!
